Description

About CoinTracker

CoinTracker is on a mission to unlock everyone's financial potential so they can build the life they want. We started with crypto, building the tax and portfolio tools trusted by millions to make digital assets simple. Today, we're going further with Nino, our AI-powered financial planning product that puts expert-level guidance within reach of everyone, not just the wealthy. We're a fully distributed team.

Highlights

  • Building foundational tools in the cryptocurrency and AI personal finance space.
  • Over 1M tax forms generated.
  • $250B+ in cryptocurrency is tracked on CoinTracker (~over 5% of the entire crypto market).
  • Partnered with Coinbase, H&R Block, Intuit TurboTax, MetaMask, OpenSea, Phantom, Solana, and Uniswap.
  • Founders: Jon previously built TextNow (200M downloads), Chandan was previously a product manager at Google & Google[x].
  • $100M+ venture capital raised from Accel, General Catalyst, Y Combinator, Initialized Capital, Coinbase Ventures, Kraken Ventures, Intuit Ventures, 776 Ventures, and notable individual investors.

Your Mission

Every year, millions of people use CoinTracker to make sense of their crypto taxes and unlock their financial potential. The infrastructure behind that experience has to hold up. During tax season, load climbs by orders of magnitude in a matter of weeks. As our Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you'll build and operate the platform that powers both our consumer tax product and Nino, our AI-driven personal finance tool. You'll scale our databases, automate our deployments, and stand up the infrastructure foundation for the AI-powered features the product team is building next. This is infrastructure with a direct line to users. When tax season hits or when a user is trying to make a complex financial decision, what you build is what stands between them and confusion.

One-Year Outcomes

  • Hold 99.9%+ uptime through tax season (Jan–Apr) with automated autoscaling validation, promotion gates, and SLO-based alerting that catches issues before users do.
  • Cut deployment lead time by 50% by streamlining our CI/CD pipeline. New features, including AI experiments, ship from staging to production in under an hour with zero-downtime rolling updates.
  • Establish the AI/ML infrastructure foundation. Provision and operationalize the GCP resources the product team needs to experiment with and ship ML-driven features.
  • Improve database performance at scale by tuning database read pools, validating connection pooling under load, and implementing automated performance regression detection.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and scale the GKE clusters powering the consumer webapp, with KEDA-driven autoscaling tied to product-dependent load metrics.
  • Manage the database infrastructure that keeps tax season survivable: primary instances, read pools, connection pooling, and PSC networking.
  • Maintain Redis caching layers for session and data caching at scale.
  • Operate GitOps pipelines and image-driven promotion workflows from staging to production.
  • Develop and maintain Helm charts for consistent deployments across environments.
  • Implement observability with OpenTelemetry — monitors, dashboards, metric routing with PII stripping, and Pub/Sub export.
  • Secure the platform with Cloudflare integration, Cloud Armor WAF, CloudOrigin CA TLS certificates, and GCP Secret Manager via External Secrets.
  • Partner with backend and AI teams to stand up staging environments so they can run experiments and ship new features without waiting on infra.

Requirements

  • Deep hands-on experience with GCP — GKE, AlloyDB/CloudSQL, Redis, Pub/Sub, GCS, Secret Manager, IAM.
  • Strong Terraform skills — module development, state management, infrastructure-as-code discipline.
  • Kubernetes proficiency — cluster management, Workload Identity, autoscaling, PodDisruptionBudgets, node pools.
  • Database operations at scale — PostgreSQL/AlloyDB read pools, connection pooling (PgBouncer), capacity planning.
  • High-traffic webapp experience — handling seasonal traffic spikes, zero-downtime deploys, rapid rollback.
  • Monitoring and observability — alerting strategies, SLO/SLI definition.
  • Genuine conviction about our mission, the opportunity we're going after, or the technical problems we're solving.
  • High agency: you identify what matters, take it on, and own outcomes.
  • Exceptional collaboration: build high-trust partnerships that make team members want you on hard projects.
  • Critical thinking: find the real question beneath the surface one, weigh alternatives, and show clear judgment under uncertainty.

Bonus

  • GitOps experience with ArgoCD or similar (app-of-apps, Helm integration, multi-source values).
  • Helm chart development and OCI packaging experience.
  • KEDA-specific autoscaling experience.
  • Terraform Cloud specifically (vs. other Terraform state backends).
  • Datadog and OpenTelemetry specifically (vs. other observability stacks).
