About this role

Hut 8 is looking for a Field Manager, CXQC, Principal to oversee commissioning activities across data center projects. This hands-on role involves travel and managing critical infrastructure systems.

Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Field Manager, CXQC, Principal to support the testing, verification, and turnover of critical infrastructure systems across our data center and mission-critical facility portfolio. This is a hands-on, field-oriented role responsible for executing commissioning programs from pre-functional testing through integrated system verification. The role is project-based, which means assignment locations will vary — candidates must be comfortable with travel and potential relocation to support active project sites across our growing footprint.
Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Execute pre-functional, functional, and integrated system commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems
  • Support startup and commissioning of critical infrastructure including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, PDUs, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, and BMS/EPMS platforms
  • Document commissioning activities, test results, deficiencies, and resolutions in accordance with project commissioning plans
  • Coordinate closely with general contractors, subcontractors, equipment vendors, and the owner's engineering team to sequence and execute commissioning activities
  • Conduct site observations to verify installations are complete and compliant with design drawings and specifications prior to testing
  • Identify field deficiencies and work with the project team to drive timely resolution before milestone dates
  • Support and ensure readiness for operational turnover
  • Maintain accurate, detailed commissioning records including test reports, punch lists, and equipment start-up logs
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with site-specific safety plans and OSHA standards during all commissioning activities
  • Communicate daily progress, issues, and schedule risks to the appropriate project stakeholders
Requirements

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in commissioning, startup, or field engineering within data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems common to mission-critical environments (UPS, generators, switchgear, cooling, BMS/EPMS)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, single-line diagrams, and equipment submittals
  • Strong understanding of commissioning documentation requirements including test scripts, punch lists, and turnover packages
  • Experience coordinating with multiple trades and subcontractors on active construction sites
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, milestone-driven project environments with shifting priorities
  • Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills — able to produce clear field reports and communicate issues effectively to project stakeholders
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites; relocation may be required based on project assignment
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Experience with mission-critical infrastructure commissioning (power, cooling, fiber, telecom) is a strong plus
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license; active passport preferred for potential international project assignments
Conditions & Benefits

Conditions

  • This role is project-based and will be assigned to active data center construction and commissioning sites within Hut 8's portfolio.
  • Assignment locations will vary and candidates should expect regular travel with the possibility of extended on-site presence or relocation depending on project needs.
  • Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.
