Waymo is seeking a Charging Automation Lead to transition to a fully automated charging network for autonomous vehicles. This role involves leading technical integration and improving charging infrastructure efficiency.

You will:
- Act as the primary technical lead ensuring seamless data integration between vehicle mechatronic embedded controls, charging hardware, CMS products and cloud-based data aggregation mobile applications.
- Support the integration of robotic automation into existing charging infrastructure, specifically the communications between the various systems involved.
- Lead the smart buildings design and implementation of automated test scripts and standardized workflows for EV charging features, from initial development through utility energization and final customer activation.
- Define and enforce rigorous quality standards and testing strategies, integrating automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous delivery of high-quality charging infrastructure.
- Identify process inefficiencies and lead implementation of automation virtualization opportunities to reduce manual testing and streamline commissioning activities.
- Collaborate with product managers, developers, and feature owners while managing external commissioning vendors to ensure all site technical requirements are met.
You have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience with Charger Management Systems development, API development, data automation/scripting, specifically with high proficiency in Python and experience with frameworks like Autobot or similar.
- Extensive technical experience with EV charging infrastructure deployment and the commissioning lifecycle, specifically with regards to OCPP/OCPI and other means of offboard data communications.
- Strong experience speccing, building and managing API's between cloud based platforms and data repositories.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps, along with version control systems like Git.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects that involve both hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) bench work and in-vehicle testing.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical issues, project status, and strategic recommendations to leadership and external partners.
We prefer:
- A Master’s degree in Engineering or electrical certification(s).
- 8+ years of test automation experience with a focus on web/mobile applications and vehicle-to-grid integration.
- Hands-on experience with automotive diagnostic tools such as INCA, MDA, CANalyzer, or Vehicle Spy.
- Understanding of Vehicle Electrical Architecture (e.g., VIP, SDV) and serial data buses including LIN, CAN, GMLAN, and Ethernet.
- High voltage or electrified vehicle safety training and hands-on experience with on-vehicle serial protocols.
- Certification in Quality Assurance and/or Test Automation (e.g., Six Sigma, ISTQB) and experience with JIRA/Problem Resolution Tracking Systems (PRTS).
- Travel requirements: This role requires travel approximately 25% of the time. Specifically, the employee will be expected to travel quarterly as part of their job responsibilities.
