Join xAI as a Construction Superintendent to oversee the building of a power generation plant in Memphis. Lead mechanical installations and ensure project milestones are met while maintaining safety and quality standards.
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars. SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to understand the universe and help expand humanity’s knowledge and capabilities. We work across the full Super Intelligence stack: compute (Colossus supercomputers), models (Grok), and applications (Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X). We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.
- Oversee and coordinate mechanical installations including gas turbine and generator auxiliaries, fuel gas piping, process and BOP piping, pumps, heat exchangers, compressed/instrument air, water and cooling systems, plant HVAC, and fire protection.
- Manage and schedule on-site crews to deliver project milestones on time and to SpaceXAI’s quality and reliability standards.
- Ensure crew adhere to mechanical scope, delivering high-integrity process and BOP systems critical to generation, start-up, and plant uptime.
- Monitor daily progress of construction, maintaining detailed logs, red-line drawings, and as-built documentation for all plant mechanical infrastructure.
- Develop and enforce aggressive construction schedules while keeping the project on time and within budget.
- Champion and enforce SpaceXAI’s safety program, building a zero-incident culture across all teams working around heavy mechanical equipment, pressurized systems, fuel gas, and elevated work.
- Supervise foremen and mechanical crews, fostering teamwork and accountability in a high-stakes generating-plant environment.
- Proactively resolve on-site challenges — material delays, technical conflicts, sequencing issues, and coordination with electrical, civil, and process trades — with a strong focus on mechanical system reliability and code compliance.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify compliance with local regulations, mechanical codes, safety protocols, and SpaceXAI’s quality standards.
- Prepare and present clear progress reports, mechanical construction metrics, and risk updates to senior leadership.
- Support mechanical completion, flushing, hydrotest, first fire, commissioning, and turnover to operations.
- 3+ years managing construction teams with a strong emphasis on large-scale industrial, power generation, or other mission-critical mechanical projects.
- 3+ years of direct hands-on experience in mechanical or electrical installations including process piping, pumps, heat exchangers, and plant mechanical systems — ideally on power plants, generating stations, or heavy industrial projects.
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- Ability to relocate within the US depending on construction location(s).
- Subject to pre-employment drug screening and random drug and alcohol testing.
- Subject to pre-employment and annual post-employment background checks.
- Comfortable working in industrial environments with exposure to noise, heavy equipment, excavations, and mechanical systems.
- Available for evenings and weekends as site operational needs dictate.
- Ability to lift 25+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor/tight conditions.
