About this role

Join Blockstream as a Senior DevOps Engineer to build and operate secure infrastructure for Bitcoin products. Work remotely in APAC and enhance operational reliability across global platforms.

Description

About the Role

Blockstream was founded in 2014 by Dr. Adam Back and a group of fellow cryptographers and engineers who are passionate about Bitcoin and its potential to change the world. Today, Blockstream is the leading Bitcoin company, providing cutting-edge infrastructure solutions for enterprises, institutions, and individual Bitcoin users. We develop industry-leading Bitcoin self-custody solutions, Bitcoin-based financial products, second-layer scaling technologies, and enterprise-grade blockchain infrastructure.

Blockstream is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to build and operate secure, resilient infrastructure across our global Bitcoin products and internal platforms. You will be a hands-on owner of Kubernetes, GCP, Terraform, GitOps, observability, and stateful production services. You will strengthen follow-the-sun operations during APAC hours, coordinate reliable handoffs with Europe, and turn operational incidents into durable automation, runbooks, and reliability improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own production reliability during APAC operating hours, including alert triage, incident coordination, mitigation, communication, and cross-region handoffs.
  • After onboarding and shadowing, participate in a shared primary/secondary on-call rotation with documented backup and escalation paths.
  • Build and operate GCP/GKE and hybrid Kubernetes infrastructure using Terraform, Atlantis, FluxCD, Helm, and Kustomize.
  • Ship reviewed, observable, and reversible production changes through GitLab CI/CD and GitOps workflows.
  • Build monitoring and alerting with Prometheus/Mimir, Grafana, Alertmanager, and Grafana IRM; improve alert quality, SLOs, runbooks, and post-incident actions.
  • Operate stateful services and recovery mechanisms, including PostgreSQL/CloudNativePG, WAL backups, Redis, Kafka, persistent volumes, and capacity tuning.
  • Manage IAM, Workload Identity, secrets, artifact registries, DNS, TLS, ingress, load balancers, and network policies.
  • Automate repetitive operations using Python, Go, Bash, or similar tools.
  • Review infrastructure changes and collaborate asynchronously with engineers across APAC, Europe, and North America.

Required Qualifications

  • Typically five or more years of production experience in DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, or infrastructure operations, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Strong Kubernetes and cloud-platform experience; production GCP/GKE experience is preferred.
  • Strong Terraform/IaC, GitOps, and CI/CD fundamentals.
  • Solid Linux, containers, networking, DNS/TLS, IAM, and secrets-management knowledge.
  • Experience monitoring and responding to incidents involving distributed or stateful services.
  • Practical scripting and automation skills.
  • Clear written and spoken English, with strong documentation and asynchronous handoff habits.
  • Ability to work the published APAC schedule and participate in the defined on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FluxCD, Helm, Kustomize, Atlantis, or GitLab CI.
  • Prometheus, Mimir, Grafana, Grafana IRM, Loki, or Alertmanager.
  • CloudNativePG, Barman/WAL recovery, Redis, Kafka, or GCS.
  • Bitcoin, Elements/Liquid, electrs, Lightning, exchange-market-data, or other high-availability financial infrastructure.
  • Hybrid/on-premises Kubernetes or security-sensitive infrastructure experience.
