About this role

Databricks is seeking a Director of Order to Revenue Compliance to lead a specialized team ensuring compliance and accuracy in usage-related financial processes.

Description

Databricks is the Data and AI company. More than 20,000 organizations worldwide — including adidas, AT&T, Bayer, Block, Mastercard, Rivian, Unilever, and 70% of the Fortune 500 — rely on the Databricks Data + AI Platform to build and scale data and AI apps, analytics and agents. Headquartered in San Francisco with 30+ offices around the globe, Databricks offers a unified platform that includes Genie, Lakebase, Agent Bricks, Lakeflow, Lakehouse, and Unity Catalog.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Strategic Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and scale a high-performing team consisting of two functional leads covering Partnerships / Royalty, Money/Engineering Compliance, and Issue Resolution.
  • Usage & Revenue Fiduciary Oversight: Serve as the primary business and compliance oversight body responsible for ensuring all usage-related, financially impacting processes are accurate, complete, SOX-compliant, and validated prior to customer billing and revenue conversion.
  • Partner Agreement & Royalty Governance: Assume complete ownership of outbound/inbound royalty reporting, executions, and complex reconciliations (e.g., Azure/Microsoft, AWS, GCP, SAP).
  • Cross-Functional System Controls & "Two-in-the-Box" Execution: Partner closely with Engineering (Money Team) and Finance Data Systems (FDS) prior to product launches to validate metering, pricing models, SKU additions, and billing logic against business intent.
  • Audit Ownership & Technical Accounting: Act as the primary audit lead for external audit, internal audit, and executive stakeholders regarding platform consumption calculations and monetization structures.
  • Remediation & Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Oversee the categorization and resolution of usage issues (Types 1–3), standardize refund SLAs/credits, and drive mandatory cross-functional RCAs with Engineering to prevent systemic metering bugs.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related technical field; CPA license preferred.
  • Experience: 12+ years of relevant experience, including extensive experience in revenue accounting, IT audit, and SOX control frameworks.
  • Domain Expertise: Familiarity with ASC 606, specifically applied to consumption-based/usage-based revenue models, SaaS, and complex partner royalty agreements.
  • Leadership & Cross-Functional Influence: Proven track record of managing managers or functional leads while directly collaborating with executive leadership across Engineering, Sales Operations, FP&A, and external auditors.
  • Technical & Analytical Acumen: Ability to bridge technical systems (product metering engines, SQL/data pipelines, sub-ledgers) with accounting rules and complex contract terms.
Conditions & Benefits

Benefits

  • Databricks strives to provide comprehensive benefits and perks that meet the needs of all employees.
  • The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and additional benefits.
